Absolute Horse Columnist Takes Aintree By Storm

Our very own Michaela Huntington riding Zula Maeva won four out of five classes, and a second at the National Amateur Champs held at Aintree, Liverpool, recently.

Taking both top spots in the 1.10m and 1.15m Grands Prix against strong opposition, it seemed impossible to equal last year’s results where Michaela won both the 90cm and the 1.00m Championships with Andrea Pearman’s piebald stallion, Drumhowen Cavalier. Michaela has now won all four Finals over the last two years. Over the four day show, the mare never faulted once, with the pressure building to see if this amazing run of consistency could continue to Grands Prix victories. Zula and Michaela have been together since the mare was a just broken 5-year-old direct from Holland, and although a late starter, has very successfully come up through the ranks to Grade A earlier this year. She is a pure bred KWPN 16.1hh grey by Odermus R with G. Ramiro Z lines and is now eight years. She has recently stepped up to jumping 1.30m classes successfully and will be hoping to compete in the Premier circuit. As an added bonus to the generous prizes sponsored by Dodson & Horrell Feed, by winning the top Grand Prix the pair have now qualified for the Amateur Classic Final to be held in the Summer of 2013.
