The date has been set for the Shire Horse Society’s 2013 Spring Show, which will return to Peterborough’s East of England Showground on 15th, 16th and 17th March. The Shire Horse Society – which counts the Queen as its patron – is a registered charity that helps raise much needed funds to support the threatened breed.
The Spring Show will see more than 200 shires compete in what is regarded as the national championships. The prestigious King George V Cup will be awarded to the most impressive stallion and a host of other trophies will be handed out over the weekend. The three day event will feature a host of demonstrations and competitions, vintage tractors and farm machinery displays and the heavy horses farriery competition. A Victorian funfair and a variety of trade stands selling the latest products, will provide entertainment during the interludes while the food hall serves up everything from light refreshment to full-course meals and traditional Sunday roasts.
