Vitamins and Minerals

If your horse has little or no access to grazing then conserved forage may be his primary source of vitamins and minerals. But while your horse may appear healthy on the outside, how do you know whether his diet is balanced and he is getting everything he needs? Even if his hay or haylage looks nice, without having it tested do you really know how much nutrition it provides? Even though vitamins and minerals are only needed in relatively small amounts, they are essential to maintain health, optimum wellbeing and performance. Hannah Briars, Spillers Nutritionist, gives her insight into this topic.
