The use of sedatives in equine veterinary practice is commonplace and allows many procedures to be undertaken that would otherwise be difficult or dangerous for the veterinary surgeon or owner and painful or unpleasant for the patient. However it is important that owners have some understanding of how and why which sedatives are used when sedating a horse, pony or donkey safely.
