As with humans, horses suffer from an extensive range illnesses and injuries requiring a variety of medical and surgical therapies. Inflammation is the body’s response in an attempt to repair tissues, while pain is the sensation experienced by the animal following injury. Pain and inflammation are intimately associated and it is rare to have one without the other, although the relative severity and intensity of each can vary.
