Healthy Hooves

The onset of Autumn means quite a change for most horses. These changes can include less time at pasture, more time spent on wet ground, more stabling, changes in feed and changes in work. In Summer one of the main risks for the feet is drying out and cracking but the feet rarely get soaked and softened by being exposed to long periods on wet ground. In Winter, wet paddocks and dry bedding can expose the hooves to a cycle of extremes from wet to dry, which can lead to an increased risk of a variety of hoof problems.
