VetWatch: Why Does Your Horse Choke?

Choke is a distressing occurrence for both horses and their owners. It occurs when the horse eats but fails to pass the food bolus adequately from the back of his mouth to his stomach. As it lodges part way down the oesophagus, or gullet, it causes discomfort.

In the February edition Karen Church MRCVS discussed what to do if you fear your horse has a blockage, she discussed what causes it and also how to prevent an episode in the first place.
