Parasitic infections are a perennial problem for horses, ponies and donkeys. Whilst successful parasites generally cause little in the way of disease when they are present in low levels, high numbers of adult parasites and, in some cases, the larval stages, can cause significant illness, disease and even death. With some parasitic infections, high stocking densities and confined living spaces with animals in close contact, can lead to considerably higher levels of infection than would be expected in natural environments. In our March edition Chris Lehrbach BVMS MVM Cert ES (Orth) MRCVS from Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership explains more.
